Our Story

Hi, I'm Janine, the person behind Bark & Bobbin.

Bark & Bobbin grew from a time in my life when I needed to find a different way of doing things. Changes in my health meant that I wasn't able to do as much as I once could, but I still wanted something that was mine — something creative, purposeful and that I could build around what I could do.

In 2025, I decided to teach myself to sew. I had no formal training and started completely from scratch, learning as I went, making mistakes, trying again and gradually discovering just how much I loved creating things.

That little sewing journey eventually grew into Bark & Bobbin.

Today, I make colourful, individual collars, leads and accessories for dogs, using fabrics that I genuinely love. Everything is handmade with care here in Newcastle, and because many of our designs are made in small quantities, you'll often find something a little different from anything you'd see on the high street.

I'm still completely self-taught, and there's something very special about seeing a piece of fabric on my worktable turn into a collar or accessory that will eventually be worn by somebody's much-loved dog.

Bark & Bobbin has become far more than I ever expected when I first sat down at a sewing machine. It's given me a way to be creative, work at my own pace and build something I'm genuinely proud of.

And one of the loveliest parts is seeing your dogs wearing things I've made. Every order, market visit, recommendation, photo and social media comment supports a very small handmade business — and it really does mean a lot.
